Every year, Goodreads hosts a poll to pick the best book of the year, and the award for 2011 goes to Divergent by Veronica Roth.  We are proud to say that we already have a copy of this book in the library and it definitely has been popular with the students!  To see more great winners and runners-up (and a good source for some holiday reading!), view the results here.

Picture Book Month

Pic books 1

SSC Library celebrated “Picture Book Month” (November) with a display of popular picture books. . .

On our display desktop we showed footage of  the animation “the Snowman”  (by Raymond Briggs). The accompanying soundtrack was beautiful and very relaxing to listen to at recess and lunch (when it wasn’t too noisy in the Library)

We also held a competition for students to nominate their favourite picture book , and explain why they loved it.

We had some great responses, and many staff enjoyed reminiscing about picture books they’d read to their children.  Congratulations to Genevieve Johnstone of 7S1, who won first prize for her entry describing why “Are you my Mother?” ( by P.D.Eastman) is her favourite picture book.  Thanks to everyone who helped make November a GREAT Picture Book Month!
