Staff Reader of the month for June

Donna Duke

English, History and Info Tech teacher at SSC since 2010

How often do you like to read?

“I love reading. I read as often as possible for pleasure and relaxation. I like nothing better than stepping into the world of a great storyteller.”

What do you like to read?

I read all sorts of fiction and some historical biographies. I am not a fan of the science fiction genre although I have read a few time travel novels. I really enjoyed “The Time Traveller’s Wife “ and “11/22/63”, a Stephen King novel about the assassination of JFK.

List one book that has left a lasting impression on you and explain why it’s memorable . . . . .

“I expect, like most English teachers I would say “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. I read the book when I was in year 8 and much of the advice that Atticus gave to Scout stuck with me. The story has a universal   message not just about racism but about   humans and our acceptance of  others.”
